WELLCOME

Dear fellow-Christians,

Our civil organization, the Society of Christian Intellectuals, came into being to bring
the Hungarian Christian intellectuals in Vojvodina closer to each other. Our aim is to live our everyday lives in a Christian way with a richer inner world. We would like to
complete the evangelistic tasks, which need to be done in the non-clerical circles,
according to our possibilities.

It is our right and duty to take a role in it. Nothing can justify indifference. We would
like to offer a new opportunity to Hungarian Christian intellectuals living in Vojvodina to
improve themselves in a Christian way and to broaden their knowledge. The members
can get to know more about Christian issues at seminars and other events, where they can share and experience the values of Christianity.

We consider it very important to establish bonds between Hungarian intellectuals living in different parts of Vojvodina. Our members are both clergymen and worldly-laics who would like to work together in order to apply the religious doctrines in our everyday lives.

As Pope Pius XII pointed out, the Christian believers, or more correctly, the secular
believers need to become aware of the fact that they do not only belong to the Church
but they are the Church. Through them, it is the vital and integral part of the human
society.

In his apostolic announcement "Christifideles Laici", Pope John Paul II encourages
believers not to withdraw from the public and political engagements. Resignation cannot be justified, as we are witnesses that culture becomes alienated not only from the Christian religion but also from almost all human values. Thus, our presence in culture is an urgent task and of great significance, as we serve the Man this way.

The aim of The SCI is shaping of man. The person who carries and lives according to
the ideas of Christian morality is like leaven; If the man becomes better - including us – the whole society will improve. At the same time, he will be capable to recognize
common good. The society, which is closed in egoism, is not able to do that. Neither a politician nor a political direction can determine the standards of it. The entire sum of human rights constitutes the common good.

The fruit of all political solidarity activities is peace, desired by all, but unfortunately, it is not ripe yet. The secular believers cannot be lazy, reserved or showing indifference to all that denies or endangers peace: violence and war, torture and terrorism,
concentration camps, militarization of politics and accumulation of armament. On the
contrary, as disciples of Jesus Christ - who is the "Lord of peace" and "our peace"- we
must be the peace-loving ones, all through the heart, and by making efforts to serve
justice, freedom, righteousness and love, which are the fundamental essence of peace.

The secular Christ believers should cooperate with all those people who are sincere in
their search for peace; let them use all the communities, national and international
institutions meant for these activities. Let them help the thorough educational work in
order to uproot the "culture" of hatred, selfishness, revenge and hostility, which is
present nowadays; and to bring forth the expansion of the culture of solidarity at all
levels. This solidarity is the"path of peace and progress". This is the standpoint from
which the Synod Fathers called for action, all Christians to reject all unacceptable
forms of violence, to help peace talks and dialogues to take place and finally, to work
on the realization of a righteous social and international order.

So, our members can be all the Christian intellectuals, who accept the statute of
our organization, which means, they are willing to do something more for the
community’s welfare by promoting the Christian values and by living according
to them. Hungarian is the main and basic language used in our organization.
